Tips For Understanding:

  1. Each letter is called a "note"
  2. Any note played 1 note higher is a sharp (#)
  3. Any note played 1 fret lower is a flat (b)
  4. There is no note between E & F notes
  5. There is no note between B & C notes
  6. The 1st position is most commonly used
  7. Open and 12 are the same letter name
  8. The 6th and 1st strings are the same letter name
  9. The 5th fret is the same as the next higher string played open (except the g string, it's the same on the 4th fret)
